One of my biggest frustrations after shopping is opening those crazy plastic packages that everything seems to be sandwiched in these days! For years, I’ve been trying to open these things with lots of failure, and giving myself the occasional injury to boot. Recently, I picked up a label maker to get things organized around here, and I found myself trying to figure out how the heck I was gonna open the plastic packaging. Scissors don’t quite work and I’ve learned that a sharp knife can be a bad idea. But what about another kitchen tool? A simpler one?
Using a can opener to safely open rigid plastic clamshell packaging is a great option!
It almost seemed too simple, so I wasn’t completely sure that it was going to work. Luckily, I can report back that I had success! I just placed the can opener on the edge of the plastic packaging and opened, just as I would have opened a canned good. The can opener’s edge holds onto the little lip of plastic (where the front and back are molded together) and stays on all the way around, despite the irregular shape of the package. After just a few seconds, my label maker was open and I was off to work!
