One of my favorite things in the world to do is find alternate uses for things. Since money can be tight, if I have something laying around, not getting any use, I love to repurpose it and give it new life, in turn saving a few bucks!
Recently, I was trying to get one of the entrances to our home organized; shoes needed a spot, jackets required hanging, and hats were… everywhere! After fishing around the house for ways to organize them, I stumbled onto an old trouser hanger; it’s made to hang a handful of pants on the same hanger, saving valuable closet space. I’d actually tossed it into a box to be donated or given away. I dug it out and spent some time thinking. I just knew this would work… somehow.
After I gave it a good think, I decided that all I needed were a handful of clothespins and a place to hang my new hat holder. Simply find a spot to hang it, clip on each hat with a clothespin and… Bam! Instant hat holder! If you don’t have clothespins or prefer to do without, you can still slip hats on using the swing arm (the end of each metal hanger pops open; you can slide hats on this way and close).
Yup, it’s that simple! I know it’s not fancy, but it does the job without spending an extra dime! And instead of donating or tossing, I got additional use out of something that I already made an investment in.
What do you think of my hat storage system? Is it fantastically frugal or just plain cheap?
