Welcome to another edition of Kids Thoughts, a new feature on our blog where our farm kids share their experiences in their own words. Today, Nikolas shares his feelings on life with food allergies.
Millions of people across the globe have allergies. Allergies can affect people in many ways. They can make people sick by causing reactions. Just a few of these reactions are nausea, skin problems, asthma attacks and even bed wetting.
Some people have allergies that they don’t even know about. I did. I got labwork done that changed my life. I found out I had allergies and changed my diet instead of taking medicines like some people decide to. It wasn’t easy, but it gave me a healthier, happier life.
When I got my bloodwork drawn, I found out that I was allergic to TONS of things. One of these things was chicken eggs, something I ate practically every day because I live on a farm. It was kind of difficult to stop eating eggs, but it was definitely worth it.
It is going to be hard changing your diet, trust me, but if you have allergies, you’ll feel a whole lot better if you do. You’ll have to be a little more picky about what you eat, but that’s ok. I mean, look at the bright side – it will help you out a lot better than medicine.
If you’re one of those millions who thinks you might have allergies, you should get labwork done. If you’re afraid of getting a needle in your arm, don’t worry. There’s nothing to fear. It’s just a step you’ll have to take so you don’t have to continue suffering the symptoms.
Do you have food allergies or think you do? Are you going to get tested?
