Essential oils can provide more than just a pleasant fragrance. They can also help in your cleaning routine. Instead of purchasing expensive or toxic chemicals to clean your home, try saving a few bucks and making an all-purpose purpose cleaner that’s safe to use around your home.
Essential Oils for Cleaning
When choosing an essential oil for cleaning, be sure to check and see if it will work for your needs. Some of my favorite oils to use for an all-purpose cleaner include tea tree, lavender, lemon, and peppermint; all oils containing great antibacterial properties. My personal favorite to use is lavender because it’s a scent that I find to be calming and just all around pleasant. One of the best things about this recipe is that’s it’s completely customizable. If you don’t like the scent, all you have to do is change it to one that you can live with.
What’s your essential oil recipe for cleaning the home?
My personal recipe is the one shown in the chart above. Basically, I pick the oils I’m in the mood for and mix! Measurements for this recipe do not have to be precise – the reference chart is more of a guideline than a recipe. Simply find an old spray bottle and fill with approximately two cups of water, 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar (white vinegar will also work), and about 25-30 drops of the essential oils that you choose. My most frequently used combination is 10 drops of each of the following: tea tree, lavender and grapefruit seed extract.
