Halloween is here! It’s not on its way, it’s not coming soon, it’s here today! And here you are, like I was, desperately searching for a last minute costume that doesn’t require a trip to the store because… well, because there’s just no time for that! No worries! With a little outside the box thinking, and maybe a little help from me and my two boys, you’ll be putting the finishing touches on your child’s costume (or even your own!) and headed out the door in no time flat!
5 Easy Last Minute No Sew Halloween Costumes:
Argh, matey! Dress up as a pirate using a little makeup and clothes you already have.
A pirate’s costume is pretty darn easy to make. You can fish through clothes you already have in your kids’ closet. For my youngest son’s pirate costume, everything needed came from home. A pair of jeans for the pants, and most any shirt will do. Horizontal blue or red stripes would work great, or maybe you already have a shirt, like my son does, that just screams, “Argh!” A belt from Hubby’s closet served as a sash, while a bandana from mine was a perfect headpiece. My son fashioned his own sword, cutting the shape from a piece of cardboard and wrapping it will foil. A little bit of a beard painted on with some makeup, and an eye patch are the perfect finish to the costume. A painted on eye patch is especially great for safety!
Find a friend and dress up as a copy cat for Halloween.
If you are searching for a last minute costume, and you have more than one child to outfit, give a copy cat costume a try! It’s super simple; just take a piece of paper, write the words “XEROX” on it, and tape it to the kids that are without a costume. For obvious reasons, this costume will only work with two or more people. Bonus points if you add whiskers with makeup, make a tail, and don some kitten ears!
Transform yourself into a mime for a night of trick-or-treating fun!
A mime is another super simple costume that can be made at home, as long as you have some face paint or makeup. My son came up with this costume idea on his own. The costume was nothing more than black clothing that he already had in his closet; black socks and sweatpants, a black shirt, and his old baseball cap. Since he didn’t have a solid black shirt, he just turned one inside out (smart thinking, Nikolas!). His makeup was very simple and took just white and black face paint. And this costume had an added bonus if your child decides to really take on the role of a mime; mimes don’t talk, so maybe it will be a little quieter at your house!
Make a simple costume to become static cling!
All you need is a few safety pins and some random laundry. While you can wear any outfit, I suggest a pair of sweats or another simple, plain outfit. Decorate yourself with a random sock here, a dryer sheet there, a rag stuck somewhere else… you get the idea! For added effect, make your hair stand up with some gel or hairspray. See if your friends can guess what you are!
Dress up and show everyone that you’re ticked pink to go trick-or-treating!
If you’ve got a girl in the house, or you happen to be one, then this costume should be pretty simple to make! All you have to do is dress head to toe in pink and add a little sign or name tag and bam – instant Halloween costume! This is me, donning a sign my son made me before attending a local Halloween party in our town. Nothing was really meant to go together, but it was fun and I think I should get bonus points just for dressing up!
Do you have a great last minute costume idea that I should add to my list? I’d love to hear about it (and so would others who are searching for a costume!)!
